This year I have done so many things for the first time and shooting and watching football is definitely one of them. I am so grateful for all of these new experiences because I get to try new things every time and to me, that is the only way to learn photography. Shout out to Patrick for making me a staff photographer at the Ubyssey.
This is a big one. I am so happy that I got to shoot for UBC's student paper which is called Thy Ubyssey for those of you who are not UBC students. My photo editor, Patrick Gillin, assigned me to shoot a Women Ice Hockey game on October 28th, 2017 and I tried to approach it like any other event that I had shot till then. Despite the fact that I am not a savvy hockey fan, I managed to identify the best spots pretty quickly. Overall, it was a pretty cool experience and I mean that literally.
I had the opportunity to photograph another event for the amazing people at Van Document this year. This time I went to Art Gally to capture some candid moments at Vancouver Art Book Fair 2017. My approach to event photography is pretty simple. I try to put myself in shoes of a visitor and then I try to experience all the different aspects of that event. This way, I gather enough input to document that event in the best way possible.
Here is how I saw Vancouver Art Book Fair 2017 as an event photographer:
